Lefty Humor - In Their Own Words
Here are
some actual postings from the *antiwarbroward* group on Yahoo.
I think you'll see that we've gotten under their skin a little
bit. I love the part towards the end about chanting.
Here
it is:
Okay, some
thoughts on our protest action this past
Saturday... I was pleased overall. At our peak we had
about 25 people and it was great to have several
people from Broward Citizens for Peace and Justice
joining us as well as some new people brought by Kwame
and others, so that was cool. I wasn't that thrilled
about our location but we were highly visible to
people driving by and it did allow us to meet people
at the bus stop. Best of all, we got to meet some new
folks who saw us while driving by and stopped to meet
us and expressed interest in joining BAWC.
Despite
Marcus and myself putting out press releases
to over 20 media, we received zero press coverage. We
did have a cameraman from Channel 10 come by and film
us and take an interview, but it was never aired. Of
course that would conflict with the corporate media's
manufactured image of "America united" and might cause
others to question this whole damn war, so no surprise
there...
On the negative
side: despite the fact that we agreed
at last week's meeting not to engage with pro-war
provacateurs trying to bust up our action, in practice
we didn't follow our own directive. I admit I
succumbed to responding to that jerk with the video
camera a couple of times myself. He's extremely
skilled at provoking people. Also, we really didn't
do a good job of conveying this decision and WHY we
made it to those of us who weren't at the meeting so a
number of us fell into the trap of engaging with that
asshole (BTW, his name is Jorge Torres).
Torres'
whole purpose there is to get in our faces,
and try to provoke us and divert our energy from our
original purpose to being focused on him. And he
succeeded. If you go to his website:
www.antiantiwar.com you will see that he succeeded in
making himself the focus of our energy.
This guy
CANNOT be reasoned with or convinced of our
views. He is a professional far-right organizer and
if you read his posts on various right-wing message
boards, you will see he believes in violence against
those on the political left. In fact I think a major
purpose of his website is to IDENTIFY people like us
for others on the far-right to commit acts of violence
against us. (A note from me, the "professional far-right
organizer". This paragraph is pure leftist nonsense. I
have never posted anything to any message board advocating violence.
Quite the contrary, I am the one that has been threatened, verbally
abused, and even assaulted by a sign wielding senior citizen
peacenik. It's all in my videos for the world to see. My counter-revolutionary
weapon of choice is the video camera.)
If we had
followed our decision of giving him complete
silence, I believe he would have quickly gotten bored
and left. Instead we allowed ourselves to fall into
his trap and he stayed for quite a long period of
time.
I'm not
suggesting we don't talk to anyone passing by,
even if someone is opposed to our point of view. If a
passerby is interested in having a conversation then
of course we talk to them. It's when people get to
the point of being abusive or are there expressly to
disrupt (like Mr. Torres), that we shouldn't engage
with them.
We need
to do things like start chanting when someone
like him tries to disrupt. I think it would be good
for us to brainstorm on some chants and put them on a
chant sheet so we're better prepared when this occurs.
